Block Making

Training in block making was initiated in end 2016, and since that teams have built structures using three different types of blocks  with different soil mixes. Stabilised adobe blocks, which can be made using simple moulds fabricated in a nearby welding unit were introduced keeping in mind poorer families. These blocks have been used in the making of school, and of great quality. Compressed Stabilised Earth blocks, using a Mardhini press (developed by engineers of the IISc Bangalore), have been employed for the building of chicken coops, a community building and even in the office building of the proposed Rural Technology Park, of the Government of Meghalaya. Mud concrete blocks were made and manufactured using locally manufactured moulds for the construction of the Seva Kendra (cummunity office for the local Village Council) building  at Pamtbuh village, West Jaintia Hills, using the sandy soil  and loose stones .

There are  two teams of about 10 persons trained in these block making activities and who are engaged in the making of these blocks for various masonry requirements.
